12/19 | 1:56PM: So far in his rookie season, Brett Howden has 4 goals, 10 assists, 33 shots on goal, 25 blocked shots and 32 hits while averaging 15:58 per game.
He is 6th among rookie forwards in points and 2nd in ice time per game.
Howden said in late October that he is getting more comfortable with each game and that he is focusing on making more plays with the puck.(NY Times)

Quinn said of Howden on 11/6 “he plays an honest game and he has some skill. The perfect example is how he got hurt, it was an all-out sprint to the net. There was no gliding, it symbolizes how he’s played since he’s been here.”
On 11/12, Quinn said that Howden is a “very smart kid, works hard, coachable. He plays fast, not just skates fast but he thinks fast and has a good recognition of what the next play could be. Following his performance on 12/18, Quinn said “he had a really good night, not just the goal, he was on his game.”
Mats Zuccarello said that Howden is humble, makes smart plays and is “kind of like” the last Ranger to wear 21, Derek Stepan, in that he is “really smart and good player.” (NY Times)

Adam Rotter: Brett Howden has been so impressive to watch. With his hockey sense and skill he reminds me of the last Ranger to wear #21 but he has a lot more speed than Stepan did. The Rangers were happy to move on from Stepan’s contract, not the player himself necessarily, but it’s great that they may already have another player like him.
