  • The Rangers took what the Devils gave them today and it was a lot. They were fast, executed well and took advantage of a shorthanded Devils team that looked a lot like the Rangers team that played on Thursday.
  • While Brett Howden, Lias Andersson, Filip Chytil, and any defensemen called up, will draw a lot of the focus the rest of the way, management will be just as focused on Jimmy Vesey, Pavel Buchnevich, Ryan Stome  and Tony DeAngelo.
  • Vesey has been playing well lately, Buchnevich and Strome have been producing and DeAngelo is looking a lot more like the first round pick he was than the 7/8 spot defender he had been playing like. Those four players will hold a big part of the Rangers future and determine how quickly things get turned around.
  • At some point in the next 47 hours or so the Rangers will have traded Kevin Hayes, Mats Zuccarello, Adam McQuaid, and maybe another player or two, in exchange for picks, prospects and assets in what should be the final stage of the teardown that started when Derick Brassard was traded, continued when Derek Stepan was traded and kicked into high-gear with The Letter last Feb and Ryan McDonagh trade. Once the deadline passes the Rangers turn into buyers for the first time in a while. Come the draft and free agency the Rangers will no longer be sitting on the sidelines and I’d expect them to be aggressive in making moves towards getting back in the playoffs.
