2019-20 Rangers

Henrik Lundqvist in net, Lias Andersson back in

7:06PM: Brady Skjei and Micheal Haley are scratches tonight, according to the NHL’s official roster.

6:05PM: David Quinn said before the game (NYR):

  • On Marc Staal’s game last night, “I thought he was solid, made a lot of good plays, defended well and was in the right position and I liked his game.”
  • On the lineup, “A couple of issues health-wise, so we we will see what happens after warmups.”
  • On playing simple, “they are listening, I was hoping they can apply it. When we got up 3-0 it got a little squirrely and I thought they did a good job of taking the play to us when they made it 3-1 and we were able to survive that 8-minute stretch. I thought our third-period was better, I didn’t think we gave up much and we found a way to win which is what you have to do. Sometimes you aren’t going to have your “A” game but if you can find a way to win when things aren’t going well, it’s a pretty good sign.”
  • On Carolina, “they are as hard a North team as you are gonna see. No-frills to their game, a really simplistic approach, they have talent, I really like their D-corp. They have a bunch of D that can skate and good size. No mystery why they made the playoffs and they are obviously a team that will make some noise this year as well.”
  • Who is in net, “Hank.”
  • Why Hank back to back, “he’s only played seven games, I wasn’t worried about him being tired and I liked his game last night. It’s been a funny year with our schedule and I wanted to give him a chance to get into a rhythm because he really hasn’t had a chance to. We get in late last night but I’m not worried about him being tired, he’s had a good year and I liked his game last night so I think he deserves this opportunity.”
  • On his history of back to back success, “yes, he has and last year he had a big game here, we came down here and won, he’s earned this opportunity.”
  • What is the key to winning the 2nd night of a back to back, “you need everybody going, our shift length is going to be important tonight, I didn’t love our shift lengths last night, they were way too long. It was something we talked about this morning, we are going to need four lines going, six defensemen involved and everybody has to do their part. If we are able to do that we are going to be able to play at the pace to have success, if not we are going to be lagging behind a bit and that is not what you want to do against this team.”
  • Was Hank pushing to get back in, “Hank is pushing to play 82.”
  • Which guys are banged up, “I’d rather keep that to myself.”
  • On Chris Kreider’s game, “I think early on he had some great scoring chances that he didn’t capitalize on that he normally does, I thought he had some real good games, last couple of games have been solid for him. Kreids is a really good player for us and with our youth we need him night in and out.”
  • Will Lias or Lindgren be in, “Lias will be in tonight.”
  • Lindgren, “maybe”

5:40PM: Henrik Lundqvist will start his second straight game against the Hurricanes tonight. (NYR)
