4:41PM: Larry Brooks reports that the Rangers are loaning Vitali Kravtsov to Traktor of the KHL for the 2020-21 season.

Kravtsov, 20, will play under coach Gatiyatulin Anvar, who is returning to Traktor as head coach after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach with SKA.

Gatiyatulin Anvar was Kravtsov’s coach in his draft season. (Brooks)

Last season, Kravtsov exercised the European Assignment Clause in his contract that allowed him to return to the KHL.

He only played in 12 games before returning to North America.

The KHL is slated to start their season in early September and Traktor’s regular season ends on 2/27.

Kravtsov joined the Rangers at their summer training camp and traveled with the team to Toronto as part of their taxi squad.

Lias Andersson was also loaned to his Swedish team and Nils Lundkvist signed a one-year deal to remain in Sweden.

Adam Rotter: With so much uncertainty around when the NHL, let alone the AHL, will actually begin next season, this makes sense and allows Kravtsov to play. Whether or not the Rangers will recall him from this loan when training camp begins, Mid-November at the absolute earliest but many believe it will be later, or allow him to play the full season and then bring him over, remains to be seen, but development is still the key with Kravtsov and it’s better to have him play, than not play.
