What Kris Knoblauch said after the win over Philly

Acting head coach Kris Knoblauch met with the media following the win over Philly and said (MSG, NHL Media):

  • On the end of the second period, “I think we quit playing as soon as we scored the sixth goal, a lot of credit to the Flyers, they are in a tough situation down 6-0 and they didn’t give up, but I think we took a lot of low percentage plays and ultimately stopped skating which put us in trouble.”

  • On the two games against Philly, “I don’t have an explanation, a lot of it is our top players executing plays. I believe in those two games, five PP goals and capitalizing on our opportunities, really good opportunities, but capitalizing on them. There are certainly other things we like about our game, but I think our top players really executing in the offensive zone.”
  • On Adam Fox, “His awareness on the ice. It’s easy sometimes to see plays when you are in the press box, way up, and the game is so slow and you see all the lanes and it’s easy to read the game and as you get down lower and lower to the ice it gets more difficult and when you are on the ice with the puck it’s really difficult, but for him it doesn’t seem so. There are a couple of things, he has such good awareness of who is on the ice, who is checking him, his teammates, where they are, where they are going and a lot of plays that look like they are going to be dead plays, like he doesn’t have a play and that is where a player makes a safe play and chips it out or whatever it may be, but it doesn’t seem that is the case with him, he is always able to make that next play, some guys can do that occasionally, Foxy seems to do it all the time.”
  • Do you take any pride in how they have played with you here, “I’m enjoying it, loving the experience, I like being here, it’s been a lot of fun, I’m learning some stuff, but taking pride, no, I’m here, I call out of the lines, the very little work that I’m doing, the coaching staff sets the game plan and has put the systems in place for the players to succeed. Right now I’m just relaying that message for a few games. I’m enjoying it, but take responsibility of it, very little of it.”
  • How important is it to have the top-six going, “I think it’s very important, it’s tough for the opposition to play against that, whether you have one shut down line or D-pair, it’s really tough for the opposition to match that up. You put all your efforts int shutting down one line, well the other is going to expose you. I think, they are capitalizing, but also credit to the third and fourth line, maybe not getting on the scoresheet as much, but they are making contributions. I think we are in a good position right now.”
