What David Quinn said after the loss to Buffalo

David Quinn spoke after the Rangers loss to Buffalo and said (MSG, NHL Media):

  • On Vitali Kravtsov, “I thought he played well, engaged, played at a good pace and I actually liked that line for the most part. I was happy for him and thought he did a good job.”
  • On Buffalo tying it late in both games, “Tonight it was about our breakout, we lost a wall battle and turned it over and thought we backed off a little too much, which I thought we did a lot tonight, we gave up too much room tonight, didn’t pressure the puck, they came through the neutral zone way too easy, the tying goal was a result losing a wall battle and turning it over and the wrong guy got it in the high slot and obviously, the 6 on 5 was similar, we lost a wall battle and didn’t close on them quick enough and it ends up in the back of our net, so that is something we have to do a better job of for sure.”

  • On not being able to get the insurance goal, “I didn’t think we had a lot of chances though, I didn’t think we forced enough turnovers or were on top of them the we needed to be and I thought our breakouts really hurt us tonight, I didn’t think we came out of our zone clean at all, that was a problem for us tonight and something we are going to have to address moving forward.”
  • Do you think the young players were playing too safe, “No, I didn’t think that at all, I thought our young kids played well tonight, I thought they did some good things, I didn’t think that was the case tonight.”
  • Is having five first-round picks in the lineup a win for the organization in the big picture, “It’s obviously exciting for our organization that we have these young players playing regular minutes right now, but I don’t think many of us are thinking of that right now, we are thinking about the fact that we weren’t able to get two points tonight.”
  • On Shesterkin, “I thought he played well, thought he played well, did a good job.”
  • On Boston getting two points and you only getting one, “Obviously at this point in time of the season you need to win, you can’t get one point. We all look at the scores in our division because it’s such a unique year, but we just have to correct some of the things we didn’t do well tonight because obviously we have a big game coming up on Tuesday against Pittsburgh.”
