3:37PM: David Quinn spoke after the morning skate and said (NYR):
- Who is in goal tonight, “Shesty is in net tonight, see how that goes, nothing definite for tomorrow.”
- What are the long term impacts of this season on the young players, “That is a hard question to answer because there is so much unpredictabliliyy to this, such unique circumstances that no one has ever been through. These guys are playing in front of limited fans now and starting their careers with no fans, which is truly unique and I actually feel bad for some of these guys that they miss out on playing in the NHL in front of full crowds. The limited practice time certainly doesn’t help them, we were actually talking about that this morning as a staff, you watch hockey throughout the league and it seems to be getting a little sloppier just because teams haven’t had a chance to practice as much as they normally would. There aren’t a lot of positives with breaking into the league in these circumstances.”
- Do you want to get Georgiev into a game, “it’s one of the priorities, we’d like to do that.”
- Is Howden playing, “and as far as Howden getting in, we aren’t sure of the lineup just yet, we will know that tonight.”
- Is the trade deadline a topic of conversation, “we’ve been through this, it’s the third year in a row I’ve been through this, our staff has been through this and these guys have been through it in the last four years, but I think we are in a little bit different position this year, that is my guess, you just never know. Jeff and I talk quite a bit, but there are things that can happen unexpectedly, you just never know what can happen at this time of year. I’m sure the players start talking about it a lot more over the next 5-6 days, obviously the Islanders make that big trade so people start talking more about the trade deadline once one domino falls. It’s a topic of conversation this morning because of the trade the Islanders and the Devils made. I think people are starting to talk about the deadline a little bit more throughout the league.”
- On Shesterkin’s workload, “I just need to continue to see what we’ve been watching, he’s been playing great hockey for us in this stretch and to me, there have been no signs of slowing down and he’s embraced the workload that he’s earned.”
- What is the mindset after Tuesday’s offensive game, “I want them to have the mindset we had from an offensive perspective, continue to feel good and when there are times make plays, make the plays we made, but also understand forcing offense against teams like this is a recipe for disaster. When we got into trouble against them the other night it was because we forced offense and our guys realize that, they know that and we are going to have to be more responsible with the puck so we don’t give up as many shots and scoring chances as we did.”
- On the lineup decisions for tonight and Howden, “we want him back in, he’s a valuable penalty killer for us, but there are questions in our lineup tonight, we haven’t even announced it to our players yet, we are still figuring out what our lineup is going to look like.”
- On offensive swagger and balance, “There is definitely a balancing act and you don’t want to take anybody’s creativity away or their skill set away, but there is also a way to play. The score should certainly play a role in what you are tyring to do with the puck, that is the balancing act. This is a game that is unlike any other, there is question of control during the course of a shift, you are on the ice for 45 seconds and for 20-30 seconds there is a puck battle and you aren’t sure if your team is going to come up with it. Those are the areas we have to continue to understand where to be on the right side of the puck and how to approach it, especially when you have a 2-3 goal lead.”
