Trouba day-to-day and Shesterkin starting on Thursday

3:49 PM: David Quinn spoke after practice and said (NYR):

  • If Trouba is out is Zac Jones an option to play, “Trouba is day-to-day right now, just got treatment today. Zac is definitely a candidate to play tomorrow.”
  • How comfortable would you be putting Zac in, “We haven’t had a lot of practice, as people are aware of, not unlike most teams in our league. Tough to gauge him in practice, but certainly like what we have seen. Obviously, he had a stellar college career, this is nothing new for us. When a guy gets an opportunity, a young player like Zac, sometimes we learn as we go, but his track record is a pretty good one.”

  • What advice would you give Zac, “Well obviously you want him to enjoy the moment, and obviously he’s going to be nervous like most guys are when they start their NHL career, but once the game gets going a lot of guys nerves disappear and he needs to play to his strengths, just like every player does when they get to this level. He can’t change the way he plays, can’t be afraid of making mistakes, and if they do make mistakes they have to shake it off and move forward and that’s what pros do. First thing is just enjoy it, enjoy the moment, he’s worked very hard and these players that have their first opportunity to play in the NHL have worked very hard to put themselves in this position.”
  • Who is in goal tomorrow, “Shesty will be in net.”
  • Is Trouba definitely out tomorrow and how do you replace what he brings, “he is definitely out tomorrow and, listen, what he brings to the table for us isn’t really replaceable by one person, it’s gotta be by a bunch of guys. That is life in the NHL, guys get injured and you have to have a group of people that respond when people get injured and that is what we are facing tomorrow night.”

1:10 PM: Igor Shesterkin will start for the Rangers on Thursday in their game against the Flyers. (NYR)
