Libor Hajek returns and Zac Jones to make his NHL debut tonight

1:07PM: David Quinn spoke this morning and said (NYR):

  • On the lineup, “Trouba is not going to be available tonight, so he will not be in the lineup and the only changes we will make are Hajek and Jones will be in on defense, Bitteto is out and Trouba is out.”

  • On the D-Pairs, “We’ll keep Lindgren and Fox together to start, and obviously this is going to be a little bit of see how it goes with the D-corp we have tonight. We will put Smith with Miller and Hajek and Jones together to start, but we’ve been going back and forth on what to do and like I said, what you see to start may not be what you see halfway through the first or middle of the second.”
  • What have you seen in Jones, “Just a real heady player, can really shoot a puck, plays with a lot of confidence and swagger, very successful career, our organization has been very high on him since the day we drafted him and he’s done nothing to disprove why we shouldn’t be high on him. World Junior player and it’s where we are at, we are excited to get him in the lineup and see.”
  • On Chris Kreider, “He has had a couple of games in the last three or four that have been better and it’s not just one player, sometimes a line is a little bit off. One of the things about Kreids, he keeps working at it and we know that we are going to get a great effort out of him tonight. At the end of the day he has to continue to come here and put forth a great effort and prepare like he always does and usually, like you said, once one or two go in a lot more follow.”
  • On the youth of the defense and where will Hajek play, “Listen, this is our lineup, our kids have done a good job since they’ve been here. They’ve been a big reason why we’ve had this little run in the last 6-7 weeks and it’s just another young player who is going to get an opportunity. He’s played on the rights side quite a bit, so he will start on the right, but we will see how it goes.”
  • On going back to Shesterkin, “I think he’s earned the opportunity with his play lately, not just lately, but the last few months. He’s earned that opportunity and we are expecting a big night out of him tonight.”
  • On the line combinations, “They won’t be stable to start tonight, we are going to have Lafreniere play with Mika and Buch, keep the Strome line the same and Kreids will play the left wing with Chytil and Kakko.”

11:57AM: David Quinn has announced that Libor Hajek will return to the Rangers lineup in place of Anthony Bitetto and that newly signed defenseman Zac Jones will make his NHL debut. (NYR, Brooks)
