2020-21 Rangers

What David Quinn said after the loss to Philly

David Quinn met with the media following the Rangers loss to Philly and said (MSG):

  • On the game, “It certainly something that wasn’t expected because usually when we’ve had games like we did against the Islanders we’ve responded, this is the first time all year that this happened. I don’t know if the realization of the situation we are in took the wind out of our sails after the Isles game, you just can’t take the amount of penalties we did in the second period and then take a four-minute penalty in the third. We’ve been a resilient group all year and we certainly weren’t tonight.”

  • What went wrong tonight, “Like I said, I don’t know if it was the realization of the situation we are in, things have been going so well, the big game on the Island, the way that unfolded, we’ve usually been able to dust ourselves off from a night like that and come right back and we just didn’t get it done tonight. We did have some changes, our first period was okay, missed some open nets to get up 2-0 and didn’t do it and the penalties really changed the flow of the game, I thought they gained an awful lot of momentum from the penalties we took in the second period and obviously they get the four-minute PP in the third and took advantage of it.”
  • What did you think of Zac Jones, “I thought he got better and better as the game went on, not an easy situation to be put in and I thought he handled himself well.”
  • On the poor record in one-goal games, “I think that from night to night there are different reasons why we lose these tight games, whether it be too many penalties or the young guys being a little bit off or the older guys being a little bit off or the d-corps being a little bit off. I think it’s been a variety of reasons from night to night, I don’t think it’s just one thing.”
  • On Lafreniere on the top line, “I thought he made some plays, I liked his game tonight.”
