12:25PM: David Quinn spoke this morning and said (NYR):
- Who is in net and how is Trouba, “Shesty is in net today and Troubs keeps getting better every day, he won’t be in the lineup tonight, though. He is day to day.”
- On having to depend on so many young players, “Obviously it’s the situation we are in and the league in general has gotten younger, but we’ve been very fortunate with the picks we made and the good young talent we have in our organization. These guys have earned the opportunity and it’s been a lot of fun coaching them, they are coachable, come here with passion and enthusiasm and they all seem to be going in the right direction. When you have as many young ones as we have they are an important piece of our team. It’s not a normal situation where you might have 2-3 really young players, but we are at the point where we have 7-8 and rely on them in key situations and they’ve delivered.”
- On Julien Gauthier, “He hasn’t played in a long time and there are only so many times you can talk to him about the situation we are in and we do look at our lineup and try to decide who can come in and who can come out, he’s worked really hard and there has been talk about getting him in. At the end of the day he has to keep being the professional that he’s been and work as hard as he has off the ice. Listen, I’m sure he doesn’t like it, why would a player like sitting as long as he has, but as we just touched on, with all the young players we have and the way some of the veterans are playing, guys that you could target as guys who could come out of the lineup or should come out of the lineup, we just don’t think that is the thing to do right now. It’s not easy for him, but he’s handled it well and I’ve got a lot of respect for the way that he’s handled it. It’s a tough situation but he’s done a good job managing it.”
- Are there any lineup changes, “With Covid right now and our testing we just gotta make sure everything checks the box before we really announce a final lineup. Trouba is day to day, I can’t answer that, I’d be speculating and I’m not a doctor, so I’ve been told he’s day to day.”
