What Gerard Gallant said after the loss to NJ

Gerard Gallant spoke after the loss to the Devils and said (NYR):

  • On the game, “It’s disappointing, but, again, it’s preseason and we will work those things out, but definitely disappointed in the group effort.”
  • Update on Kravtsov, “lower body, that’s all, they’ll reevaluate him tomorrow. I don’t think it’s too serious.”

  • Was it precautionary, “well it bothered him enough that he couldn’t play, but I don’t think it’s anything long term.”
  • What do you take from this game, “It’s not good, this group played the first game and didn’t play very well and now back tonight. You have to be ready to play these games, they don’t mean a lot in the standings, obviously, but they mean a lot when we are evaluating players and hopefully we will get a better effort tomorrow night in Boston. It will be a few of these guys playing again, but for the most part, it will be a different group, but exhibition games to get ready for the regular season, but tonight wasn’t acceptable.”
  • On losing a forward early in the game, “it just makes the coach work harder, you can’t roll the four lines, you’ve got to fill guys in and out of there. It’s not a big deal, really, but you put different guys in different spots and we were hoping Kravy would be okay and play the whole, but you are being safe and making sure and with it an exhibition game you are not going to put him back out there.”
  • On Kreider switching sides, “I switched it back and forth a little bit, but just to get the other guys some opportunities, nothing to do with Kreids, he can play both sides. We put Hunt up there some times and Gauthier up there some times, switched it up a little bit.”
  • On Gauthier’s game, “I thought he was pretty good, for a bad game that the team played, I thought he was pretty good, he had a couple of real good scoring chances, he moved his feet good. He was fine.”
  • On Chytil, Goodrow and Gauthier, “I can’t say anybody was good, when you give seven goals and only get one, but, I thought that the kid, Gauthier, was probably one of the better players on our team tonight.”
  • On Trouba and Miller, “I’m not going to put it all on them, there was a lot of guys back there that had trouble, but, again, it was a team effort from the forwards right back to the end. When you give up seven goals and scoring chances we gave up, there were a lot of mistakes made. It wasn’t one or two guys, it was the whole group.”
