What Gerard Gallant said after the loss to Colorado

Gerard Gallant spoke after the loss to Colorado and said (MSG, NYR):

  • On Huska, “He was great in the first, I think they had 17 shots and he made some key saves, but we lost that as a team, definitely.”
  • Where did things go wrong, “just gave them too many scoring chances, too many opportunities. That third and fourth goal, we opened the door for them, we didn’t play good, strong defense like we had to and we talked about and we turned some pucks over again and they took advantage of it. They are a talented team and if you are going to give them second and third chances and odd-man rushes they are going to take advantage.”

  • Are there things you take away from this to hang with a team like Colorado, “not at all. We’ve been on a good roll lately, played really good hockey and you run into this sometimes. It’s like losing 3-2 in overtime or 3-2, 7-3 tonight. We didn’t play well, will bury it and go on to the next one.”
  • Are you confident the team will be able to put it behind them, “That is what you’ve gotta do, I’m not worried about it one bit. I’m not happy we lost tonight, but you move by it, the game is over, you move by it and get ready for the next one in Buffalo.”
  • You saw nothing you have to address, “You always address issues, there were a lot of defensive lapses, we’ll show them some video, but you move on. We’ve played good hockey, the mistakes we made were more mental than anything else. I don’t make excuses, but we looked like a tired team.”
  • Did you say anything to Huska before the third, “I told him that it’s a team thing right now, we are down 6-2, go in there and battle your ass off. That is all we want. I’m not gonna put Georgiev in the after two periods and go in there cold and we already lost a goalie. It makes no sense to me to do that.”
  • Has Shesterkin skated, “I couldn’t tell you that. He hasn’t skated with us, I know that, but we just got back off the road and I haven’t seen him.”
