Gerard Gallant spoke after the morning skate and said (NYR):

  • Any update on Panarin, “not really, day-to-day.”
  • What do you want to see from Chytil, “just play good hockey, work hard, play good hockey. I’m not going to get into specifics, that is between me and Fil, go out and play good hockey.”

  • Which center would move to the wing, “Chytil? Well, if you read Brooksie’s article this morning, I trust his decision. (big laugh) You might see that tonight. (joking with Larry Brooks) No, seriously, he might play on the left-wing tonight, he’s big, rangy guy, can make plays.”
  • But you have a lot of guys that can play center, “yea, definitely, no doubt. It’s not a knock against him playing center, but with Panarin possibly out tonight, we’ll see, we gotta fill that left-wing spot.”
  • Does Georgiev’s play allow you to be cautious with Shesterkin, “yes and no. Igor was a star goalie and played unbelievable hockey and we want him back as soon as he’s ready. I think he skated pretty good today and took all the shots. We’re definitely cautious, Christmas break coming up, we’ve only got one game, four days off, we are trying to be smart about it.”
  • Do you feel you are generating enough 5-on-5, “You look at everything in the big picture, that is what I do, and you have to fix little things when they come up, but we’ve played so many games, had no practice time, I look around the league and see what is going on with other teams, I’m pretty happy where we are in the standings. You see stuff that you say, ‘their not this, not that, not a good team.’ We are pretty good right now, for the schedule and travel we’ve had, I think we’ve played the most road games in the NHL, I’m pretty happy.”
