Gerard Gallant, Ryan Reaves and Julien Gauthier clear Covid protocol

2:06 PM: Gerard Gallant spoke after the morning skate and said (NYR):

  • You felt fine with Covid, “A little flu one day, Day 3 a little bit, but 90% of the time I was good.”
  • On watching the games on TV, “you see all the mistakes, as a coach you are looking for all the mistakes instead of the good stuff, but it was good. I don’t want to do it again, but it was a good experience, watched sort of a bad game in LA and a pretty good game in San Jose, good things to take from it.”

  • You watched from your couch, “I was in California, not the San Jose game. The LA game I was.”
  • Is it more nerve-wracking to watch from home or on the bench, “I was relaxed, more nervous on the bench.”
  • On how Knoblauch did, “he did great, did an awesome job. Watching the games, especially the second game, you really watch it close, he was great, did a real good job, PP units, PK units, 5 on 5, I thought he did a real good job. The team played well.”
  • On the depth of players that came into the lineup, “real, real happy. They all played well, worked hard, created stuff on the ice. Real happy with all those guys, definitely.”
  • Is it tough to take out some of the guys that played well, “yea, that is what happens, but it’s a good thing. You have guys coming back, Reavo and Gauthier coming back in today, not saying they are playing tonight, but they are coming back and it makes your decisions. There are rules with the taxi squad and 23-man roster so you gotta work around that, but I was real happy with how they performed.”
  • On the bottom-six lately, “they played real good defensive hockey, the other night they had some scoring chances, created some good scoring opportunities, they did exactly what you’d hope. When you get that many new guys coming into the lineup and it’s the first time you’ve been tested all year, they all come out of it exciting me and our organization and you like to see guys step up and play well and that is what they all done.”
  • Does anything with Shesterkin surprise you anymore after Thursday, “it just goes to show you how important it is when a guy is rested and ready to go. He didn’t have a full practice, but he had guys shooting on him back here and he was on the ice for 3-4 days before that and it goes a long way. Igor is a great goalie, Georgie has been a great goalie for us, it’s definitely the backbone of our club right now.”

10:33 AM: Gerard Gallant, Ryan Reaves, Julien Gauthier, and assistant coach Mike Kelly have all cleared Covid protocol.

Kris Knoblauch has been sent back to Hartford.

Assistant coach Gord Murphy has entered Covid protocol.
