What Gerard Gallant said after the loss in Winnipeg

Gerard Gallant met with the media following the Rangers loss to the Jets and said (MSG):

  • On the game, “We were not great in the first, I thought we played a real good second and the third I think we ran out of gas. We made a lot of mistakes in the defensive zone, which usually happens from mental mistakes and tired mistakes. We created a lot of chances, but we just gave up way too much.”

  • Was it Hellebuyck, “Hellebuyck was real good, but Halak was real good too. They had great chances from the slot, we gave up way too much from there. Good goaltending and a shame we couldn’t at least get a point out of there tonight, came back and scored late, but then gave up those late goals.”
  • On Ryan Carpenter’s status after being cut with a skate, “He’s doing okay, I guess, I haven’t heard nothing. Upper body, day-to-day, we’ll see where it goes.”
  • Excited to get back home, “yes, it will be nice to get home and a little rest for our group.”
  • On Hunt’s goal and the game, “Huntsy…it was a good goal, big goal at that time. Unfortunately for us we made some bad mistakes after that and gave them two goals, but we battled back to get that point. It was a tough night for us, we gave up a lot of chances, Grade A chances we didn’t give up the first two games, but, again, we created some and it was just one of those games and we probably didn’t deserve the points.”
  • On the shot volume, “I think we had some real good chances and he made some real good saves. I wasn’t disappointed with our offensive output, I was disappointed with the defense. That isn’t defensemen, it’s defensive game.”
  • On Hajek, “I don’t really watch the defense. I’ll watch the game tomorrow, so I’m not going to comment on any of our defensemen’s play.”
