5:45 PM: Gerard Gallant spoke before the game and said (NYR):

  • On Vitali Kravtsov, “he was in the dentist’s chair. He had the flu yesterday morning, came to the rink last night and his teeth were really bothering him so he spent the morning in the dentist’s chair and I haven’t heard since that. He isn’t playing.”
  • Everyone else who got banged up last night is good, “Yep.”

  • Igor, “Yep.”
  • Any other lineup changes, “There might be one, you’ll find out soon.”
  • Do you think the PP gets stubborn, “when they are real good they are real quick and snapping the puck around and last night it just, it looked almost like they were bored, to be honest with you, not stubborn, but bored. Everything was bouncing and jumping and they just weren’t sharp. Not going to jump all over them because of that, they are one of the best PPs in the league when they are sharp and last night it didn’t seem near as sharp and they weren’t as crisp and execution wasn’t as good. They still get a couple of good looks, but it hurt late in the game when we had four minutes and didn’t really get too many good chances. There were a couple, but not to what you expect.”
  • Do you think they have been sharp enough this year, “Yea, I do. I’m happy with them. Wasn’t last night, but most nights I am.”
  • Do you see teams shading to prevent the Mika one-timer, “They better, it’s a big play and when that happens you gotta get pucks to the net and then they gotta collapse and then they are out of position and the Mika play opens up. You can’t just look and go out there and say we are going to do the Mika play tonight, you gotta do other things to open those lanes up….you gotta get shots first and then things open up for you.”
