Gerard Gallant met with the media following the win over Colorado and said (MSG/NYR):
- On the game, “we found a way to win tonight with unbelievable goaltending. Obviously that was the biggest key for us tonight. We didn’t play our best, but the goaltender was incredible.”
- Did it remind you of last season, “100%, 100%. Probably 10 minutes into the game that is what I was saying, I said that I hope he’s ready because we just didn’t play as crisp as we did the other night, but Shesterkin was unbelievable.”
- Did you like the response after the first period, “Yea, still, we gotta be better than that, but…I guess the altitude…I don’t know, because we didn’t seem to have much skating legs tonight and we made a lot of plays in front of their defense that turned over and they went the other way. But, again, I’m pretty happy with the win, but we gotta be better than that most night.”
- On Braden Schneider scoring, “good for him, good for him. He’s playing great, outstanding. Great kid, shooting the puck and joining the rush and that is what we want from him.”
- Does his confidence joining the rush come with more experience, “100%. I agree with that 100%. He’s played really well defensively, doesn’t take many chances, but he sees his opportunities and he’s reading it. He’s not doing it every shift, he’s doing it when it’s there, good for him.”
- Turnovers and rush chances against were an issue tonight, “I thought, for sure, yea. We didn’t manage the puck nearly as well as we did last game and fortunately Shesterkin was outstanding and that was a big part, but I’m not going to complain about winning a hockey game, but we gotta be better than that most nights.”
- Do you feel like things are starting to turn around, “Keep it rolling. Like I said, when you keep the winning streak moving and working, we weren’t perfect tonight, but we’ll take it, go back home, we don’t play again until Monday and that will be a tough one against New Jersey, but we’ll enjoy this one and then fly home tomorrow, practice Sunday and then go back to work.”
