San Jose claims defenseman Ty Emberson off waivers

The Sharks have claimed Rangers defenseman Ty Emberson off of waivers.

Emberson, a right-shot defenseman, was placed on waivers yesterday with the intention of him going to Hartford.

Emberson, 23, played in 69 games for Hartford last season, scoring 7 goals and 20 assists and two goals and three assists in 9 playoff games.

Adam Rotter: The biggest thing about losing Emberson is that the Rangers don’t have much depth on the right side of their defense. Mac Hollowell is next on the depth chart, but beyond that they are going to have to have lefties playing on the right side. Obviously they are going to have two lefties playing on the right side in Hartford to fill out those defense pairs, but generally speaking the Rangers don’t have much depth behind Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba and Braden Schneider. Maybe Zac Jones will get a look over the next few preseason games on the right side.
