Adam Rotter:
- Another game with a bunch of number of defensive issues, including in the opening seconds of the game. The speed of LA gave the Rangers fits all night.
- They had opportunities, including a 5-on-3 where they generating good chances but couldn’t score. LA wasn’t demonstrably better and it was a close enough game but like most of the season, not being able to finish on those chances and some poor play with the puck cost them.
- We don’t know when Adam Fox is coming back or when the Rangers may trade Carson Soucy, but I hope Scott Morrow stays with the team the rest of the year. He seems to be getting more comfortable offensively and at this point he’s probably going to develop better by playing consistently in the NHL. To do that though, when Fox returns, would likely include shifting Braden Schneider to the left side. Schneider has struggled since taking on this bigger role but the Rangers can be creative in how they deploy players the rest of the year to see what may or may not work moving forward. There is the chance the Schneider gets moved, but if he does, I think that will happen in the offseason.
- They visit the Sharks on Friday and then return home to face Boston on Monday.
