Game One against Carolina is Tonight

The Rangers open the second round of the playoffs in Carolina tonight at 7 PM on ESPN.

The Hurricanes won three of the four meetings with the Rangers this season.

Carolina outscored the Rangers 14-10 and outshot the Rangers 140 to105.

The Rangers only win against Carolina came with Alex Georgiev stopped all 44 shots in a 2-0 win.

Carolina includes former Rangers Derek Stepan, Jesper Fast, Tony DeAngelo, Brady Skjei, Brendan Smith and Antti Raanta.

Updates from the Rangers on Tuesday

Gerard Gallant met with the media following practice today and said (NYR):

  • Any concern with Lindgren not practicing, “no concern at all. Give him the extra day.”
  • What is the key for tomorrow, “It’s game one, be ready to play and compete and battle hard. We know they are a good hockey team, Pittsburgh was a good hockey team, we gotta be ready to play our game, compete, battle.”

What Gerard Gallant said about Shesterkin, Captains, Carolina and more

Gerard Gallant was on The Michael Kay Show on Monday and said some of (ESPN Radio):

  • What is it like for you in OT, “it’s the same for me, you are just coaching the game. After the game you are disappointed or real excited like we were, but during the game nothing changes, you do your job, coach your game. I try to do my job and make sure the right guys are on the ice. I’m not nervous or nothing going on in OT, it’s the same game and I’ve done this for a number of years and you just do your job.”

Updates from the Rangers on Monday

Gerard Gallant met with the media on Monday and said (NYR):

  • Are you relieved or excited, “It was exciting, obviously last night was a great night for us, and nice to be doing the media today because we are still playing. It was a great win, exciting win and I’m real happy we have today off, today is a good day off for us and we don’t gotta play until Wednesday and that was huge for us. “
  • What was it like in the locker room, “real excited, the guys were excited to win. Anytime you go into OT in Game 7 and you are on the winning end of it is an exciting time. They were definitely happy.”
