What Gerard Gallant said on Thursday

Gerard Gallant spoke on Thursday and said (NYR):

  • On Kreider and Lafreniere switching sides, “we’re trying to just give them both opportunities. I know Kreider, with his speed and strength if he gets in that right side and gets going down that wing and cuts him with that shoulder it’s pretty tough to stop him. So we mentioned it to him and Lafreniere is a little bit more comfortable on the left side right now as a young player, so we’re gonna give that a try and see. And Kreids wants the opportunity on the right side too, you know, he’s a strong skater and I think you’ll get a lot of opportunities going down that right wing, on his off side.”

What Gerard Gallant said after the win over Boston

Gerard Gallant met with the media after the game and said (NYR Game Notes),

  • On the game, “I liked the game tonight, I thought we played a really good, solid hockey game. It wasn’t as scrambly as I thought the last game,  but the first period was real good, there was a little bit more contact tonight, the Rooney line got some momentum in the second period with a good forechecking shift, it was good to see things like that and our top guys scored.”

The expected lineup against the Bruins

4:30PM: Gerard Gallant spoke before the game and said (NYR):

  • Is Matthew Robertson not ready, “he missed a few days of camp, so we’ll see, take it day by day. We discussed the lineup, he’s the odd man out today’s, but he did miss three or four days in the middle of camp, so we want to make sure he is okay.”
  • On defense pairs staying the same, “they played well together, obviously Foxy and Lindgren had a great year together and they played well, I think Trouba and K’Andre, a veteran guy and a young guy, so it’s, it’s a good match right there so I think we’re going to definitely start like that this year. Again, we’ll see where things go. Hopefully, everybody stays healthy and that’s what we can start with but they’re definitely both good periods for sure”
