Mike Grier and Ryan Martin reportedly interviewed for Sharks GM job

Rangers assistant GM Ryan Martin and Hockey Operations Advisor Mike Grier have both reportedly interviewed with the San Jose Sharks for their GM position. (SJ Hockey Now)

Both Martin and Grier were hired by Chris Drury last offseason.

Martin was interviewed for Anaheim’s GM job that went to former Ranger Pat Verbeek.

Assistant GM Ryan Martin named GM for Team USA at the World Championships

USA Hockey has announced that Rangers assistant GM Ryan Martin has been named GM for Team USA at the 2022 World Championships.

Martin is in his first year with the Rangers.

Chris Drury had been GM for Team USA at the Worlds twice in the past.

Mike Grier, who is a hockey operations advisor to Drury, will assist Martin.

Anaheim interviewed assistant GM Ryan Martin for their GM job

Pierre LeBrun reports that the Anaheim Ducks have interviewed assistant GM Ryan Martin for their vacant GM position. (TSN)

Martin joined the Rangers last summer after working with the Red Wings for 16 seasons.

LeBrun said that Martin reportedly interviewed “very well” with the Ducks. (The Athletic)

Rangers to hire Detroit’s Ryan Martin as Assistant GM

8/25/21 | The Rangers have announced the hiring of Martin.

8/13/21 | Larry Brooks tweets that the Rangers are hiring Red Wings assistant GM Ryan Martin to be Assistant GM and GM of Hartford.

Martin has spent the last 16-years with the Red Wings and the last 11, under Ken Holland and Steve Yzerman, as assistant GM.

The Red Wings media guide says Martin is “primarily responsible for collective bargaining agreement administration and compliance, salary cap management, player contract research and analysis and salary arbitration preparation. He’s also involved extensively in all facets of player contract negotiations, strategic planning and player evaluation at both the pro and amateur levels.”
