What Kris Knoblauch said after the win over Washington

Acting Head Coach Kris Knoblauch met with the media following the Rangers win over Washington and said (MSG, NHL Media):

  • On the team responding after last night, “I think they are very committed, feel they have an opportunity to make the playoffs and they need to play well throughout the final stretch. I think there is some belief that they can play like they did last year in the second half of the year where they went on quite a roll. Obviously, the Philadelphia game there is a lot to be happy about, the first game against Washington they felt they deserved better and wanted to make sure they won tonight.”

6:18PM: Larry Brooks writes in the NY Post that Knoblauch will likely remain with the Rangers for at least the next two games.”

6:08PM: Kris Knoblauch spoke before the game and said (NYR):

  • On tweaking things from last night, “A little bit, we saw them play, felt that maybe we didn’t exploit some of their weaknesses. They don’t have very many, they are a good hockey team, a lot of good players, well coached, but I think there were some things that we felt we could be better at. Overall we liked our effort, execution was pretty good, but we felt that maybe we could take advantage of some things.”

Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson had sports hernia surgery and is out for the season

5:14PM: The Rangers have confirmed that Johnson underwent “core muscle” surgery and will be out for the season. (NYR)

2:50 PM: Darren Dreger tweets that Rangers defenseman Jack Johnson had sports hernia surgery yesterday.

Dreger says that Johnson is expected to make a “full recovery by June/July.”

Johnson has been bothered by a lower-body injury for most of the season. David Quinn called him a “warrior” earlier this month for how he played through the injury.

  • On the defensive effort, “I think guys were feeling very confident after the Philadelphia game, enjoying hockey scoring some goals, everyone feels better and they just wanted to carry that on and they knew they were going to have to have a solid effort because Washington is a good hockey team and been playing extremely well. I think they were really committed to winning this game.”
