Brett Howden out 3-4 weeks with MCL sprain

6:31PM: On Brett Howden, Quinn said of Howden on Thursday “It’s unfortunate. I thought that break did him good, at least that few minutes he played against Philly he looked like he had energy and had a couple of great scoring chances and looked like the player he was the first two months of the season.” (NYR)

4:02PM: The Rangers have announced that Brett Howden will miss 3-4 weeks with an MCL sprain.

He was injured on Tuesday in the Rangers loss to the Flyers and left the game after the first with what the team called a knee sprain.

This season, by Month, Howden has had:

  • October: 2 goals, 4 assists, minus two, 11 shots, 14:58 per game in 12 games
  • November: 2 goals, 5 assists, even rating, 15 shots, 17:00 per game in 13 games

  • January: 0 goals, 1 assist, minus seven, 11 shots, 11:44 per game in 11 games

Howden started Tuesday’s game at wing with David Quinn saying that he hoped it would provide some relief defensively and hopefully get him going offensively. (NYR)

He added that Howden was being asked to do a lot as a 20-year old playing center in the NHL and that giving him time off during the bye, rather than sending him to Hartford, was the best for him both mentally and physically. (NYR)

In speaking about Howden prior to the game on 1/29, Quinn said that Howden is such a “caring” player, works hard on and off the ice and that his approach to the pro game is “far beyond his years.” (NYR)

On Wednesday, Quinn said of Howden “I thought he got off to a good start last night and thought the break was going to do him a lot of good and it looked like it did early on. He looked like the guy he was earlier in the season.” (NYR)
