David Quinn said after the game (NYR Game Notes):

  • On how the game went, “disappointing in a lot of ways, in the second period we had zone time but we got reckless from an offensive perspective. I felt like we were playing like it was 3-0 and we abandoned any type of responsibility so then there were odd-man rushes. I thought that the last 2 1/2 weeks we have been responsible and not given up those situations. I also think we passed up a lot of opportunities to shoot the puck. Spend close to nine minutes in their end in the second period and to have nine shots, that…we have to have more of a shooting mentality, get inside the hash marks and we can be too perimeter offensively. That was the takeway from the second and the PP hurt us, I don’t expect to score on every PP but you do expect to gain some momentum off the PP. The complete opposite happened tonight, we got demoralized off our PP and they fed off their kill to start the third. We were never able to match what they were doing which was disappointing because we’ve played well in the third the last 2-3 weeks but disappointing that we were unable to match their intensity and didn’t win a lot of wall battles, just spent too much time in our end.”
  • On the players feeling there was a lack of urgency, “they would be correct, there was definitely a lack of urgency which was surprising. It was set up to be a special night and we just didn’t capitalize on it. Still, it’s 1-0 and we get a PP but we didn’t do anything with it.”
