2019 Rangers Offseason

The salary cap might be lower than expected

Elliotte Friedman notes on twitter that the expectation is that the salary cap will be between $81.5 million and $82.1 million.

Larry Brooks tweets that $81.5 million is the number that is circulating and that teams are “bracing” for.

The salary cap had been expected to rise to around $83 million from $79.5 million this season.

At $81.5 million the Rangers would have between $17 million and $18 million in cap space to sign Jacob Trouba, Pavel Buchnevich, Tony DeAngelo and Brendan Lemieux.

Trouba is expected to sign a deal that could have a cap hit between $7 million and $8 million.

The Hockey News Free Agent issue projected DeAngelo, Buchnevich and Lemieux to sign deals that have cap hits between $2 million and $3 million each.

Buchnevich, Chris Kreider, Jimmy Vesey and Vlad Namestnikov are possible trade chips for the Rangers.

Adam Rotter: It would only be a slight dip and in previous years that might be a big deal for the Rangers but in their current situation they have more than enough to sign their own guys and enough possible trade chips that could create some more cap space if needed.
