10/2/20 | Larry Brooks writes in the NY Post that Jeff Gorton and the Rangers have not had any conversations with Jesper Fast’s agent since “extension talks broke down” prior to the trade deadline. (NY Post)

The Rangers held onto Fast through the deadline and he suffered, what is believed to be, a concussion only minutes into Game 1 against Carolina.

Fast was ranked 38th on TSN‘s Free Agent list.

Adam Rotter: This isn’t overly surprising but it will be a blow to the Rangers. Fast has been a very important part of the Rangers since he became a regular in 2014-15, but with so many young wingers here and on the way, they can’t really lock him up. He would be the third big “presence” to leave the Rangers, after Staal and Lundqvist, and someone whose role will need to be replaced. There is a reason he has won the Players’ Player Award for FIVE straight seasons, he sets an example, always works hard and makes smart plays. The Rangers will miss him/that and he will join a new team and make them better. He’s a great piece for a contending team that needs help in the bottom-six and on the PK and will likely get 3-4 years at somewhere between $2.5 million and $3 million per season.
