2022 New York Rangers Offseason Andrew Copp Ryan Strome Contract/Future

The latest on Ryan Strome, Andrew Copp and the Rangers

At 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman said the following about the Rangers:

On Ryan Strome, “Strome and the Rangers were talking all year and they just never got to a sweet spot and I think that continued after the season, after they got knocked out they kept trying. I heard term was an issue, I don’t know if number was an issue or not, but I heard term was an issue. I heard the Rangers were careful about how much term they wanted to give. We’ll see, centers are always valuable.”

On the Rangers plan, “Like, Copp, I think the Rangers are just very careful because they don’t want to box themselves in. What I heard was Drury wanted to check out all options, he likes Copp, he likes Strome, but I heard he didn’t have a lot of flexibility and he wanted to keep it for as long as he can. If they are looking at a guy like Kadri, I don’t know how that would all work, but I heard that Drury wanted to keep a certain amount of flexibility and never got to a place he was comfortable with with any of his guys yet.”

On Andrew Copp, Jeff Marek said he wondered about Detroit and also Nashville.

On Nazem Kadri, “I think there are a lot of teams in on him, I’ve heard not to count out the New York teams possibly looking at Kadri, the Rangers and Islanders. What someone said to me was they think there is a lot of competition and a lot of unique attempts to try and get him done. I don’t know what that means, but he said they believe the New York teams will be in….teams do suspect that both the Rangers and Islanders will talk to Kadri.”

On Tyler Motte, “You know who I’ve heard a little bitthis weekend? Tyler Motte. I heard there are some good teams that really like him.”

Scott Burnside wrote at Daily Faceoff that the Rangers would “love” to add Kadri’s experience, but the “term/dollar issue will be daunting.”
