Stats:

Adam Rotter:

  • The only thing of importance out of tonight’s game is whether or not, or how badly, Alexis Lafreniere is banged up after he blocked that shot in the third period. He did not look comfortable on the bench and since it’s preseason there was no reason to throw him back on the ice, but hopefully it’s nothing that will keep him out. He had a goal tonight and was playing on the right side.
  • It’s hard to figure out, at this point, what the lines will be when the Rangers face Tampa to open the season. They started camp with The Kid Line together, Sammy Blais on the top line and Vitali Kravtsov with Panarin and Trocheck. But when the games started we saw Kaapo Kakko on the top line, Vitali Kravtsov in different spots and Alexis Lafreniere with Trocheck. My guess is that we see some other options in the two games against NJ later in the week and that the final two games will be a real indication of how the Rangers are going to start the season.
  • Jimmy Vesey, again, certainly looks like he will have a spot on the team. He’s getting on the scoresheet, which won’t be his defined role this season, but it certainly helps. It would be something though if after all this time, now is when Vesey turns into the 20-25 goal scorer he was supposed to be in the time before and during the early parts of the rebuild.
  • Vitali Kravtsov looks like he is adjusting and starting to find his way, but it will be hard to get a good read on him until we know where he will be situated in the lineup.
  • Will Cuylle threw a bunch of hits and will probably be the one providing cover for most of his fellow prospects in Hartford this season.
  • Next up is back to back against NJ on Thursday and Friday and we’ll see how the lineup shakes out for those. I’m guessing Artemi Panarin will get in one of the games and hopefully we see Sammy Blais and Barclay Goodrow.
