2022 New York Rangers Training Camp

What Gerard Gallant said after the win over the Islanders

Gerard Gallant spoke after the Rangers win over the Islanders on Monday and said (NYR):

  • Probably how you want all the games to go, “Yea, it would be nice…it was a good game, nobody got hurt, played well.”
  • On being crisp from the start, “yea, again, the games don’t mean nothing. It’s nice to play well, they moved the puck really good, we worked 3-4 days on some system stuff and they looked good tonight. The veteran players played together, the kids played really well, so we’re happy….good start to camp.”
  • On Jimmy Vesey, “from the first day of camp he worked hard, came in here in real good shape and he wants to play in the NHL. He got a PTO and he’s working hard for it and he’s making people think and that is what you want from your guys. You look at our team and you say there is 23-guys that’ll be on the roster, but you want guys to come in here and make tough decisions for coaching staff and management and that is what people like Jimmy have to do.”
  • On Brennan Othmann, “he’s a young kid, it wasn’t much of a hit really, he got a little push (laugh)…Romanov hits much harder than that, but he went in and banged his nose against the boards and he’s fine, but he’s a character kid, he wants to score goals, played a good game for us and it’s good to see the kid came back because the rookie games didn’t go that well for many of the guys and I thought he played really good tonight. It was good to see them get their feet wet with that and he played good.”
