Stats:
- It’s hard to judge a lot from the preseason, but the Rangers will need to be a lot sharper in pretty much all areas.
- Kaapo Kakko scoring again, and the way he did, has to be a big confidence boost and hopefully a sign of things to come. He scored on a breakaway and at the net in the last game and tonight he scored on an actual shot. He whipped that shot short-side and if he consistently it isn’t hard to see his name show up on the scoresheet a lot more.
- He had some moments on the top line and maybe that is the way to go because, I guess, they will always have The Kid Line as something to fall back on.
- It seems pretty obvious that Zac Jones is going to start, or at least play the first game, with Braden Schneider. Those two have been paired together a bunch and that has to count for a lot. I’d also put Jones on the second PP unit. Jacob Trouba and K’Andre Miller are also deserving of that spot, but those two play the tough match ups and kill penalties. Jones just playing at 5-on-5 isn’t enough and the PP is such a big part of who he is and his game.
- I really hope that we don’t have a counter each game of “good” passes Vincent Trocheck makes and “bad” passes that he makes. Trocheck gave the Islanders their first goal, but he also made some creative and nice plays. You expect that to a certain degree from offensive players, but he has to know better than to make that pass on the first Isles goal.
- So that does it for the preseason. Things get real on Tuesday.
