2022-23 Rangers Regular Season

What Gerard Gallant said after the loss in Calgary

Gerard Gallant met with the media following the Rangers loss to the Flames and said (NYR, MSG):

  • On the game, “the start was interesting, but after that it got a little bit better. It wasn’t the same type of game that we played last week, either. To come out of here at the end of a road trip with a point in the last game, it’s pretty big for us to battle back.”

  • What is it about how the team can stay the course and come back, “we’re not going to quit and we had some great goaltending there, he made some key saves when it was 2-0, that was huge for us. We found a way to get some goals and come back in the game and unfortunately we lose in OT and that happens. I thought that overall it was an excellent trip for us. It would have been nice to finish it off, but we’ll take the one point.”
  • What did you think about the hit on Chytil, “Honestly, I’ve never seen it. I just sort of looked up and he was coming across. I didn’t really look at it yet. I don’t know….somebody at the bench was yelling interference, that is all I’ve seen.”
  • How is Chytil, “Fil’s fine, they said he’s fine.”
  • On picking up points, “It’s huge. Every point is big this time of the year and to come on this trip and the first game of the trip was in Carolina on a back-t0-back and to finish the trip on a back-to-back. It just shows that the guys are never going to quit and we found a way to get seven of eight points, so that is huge for our group.”
  • Did you notice a lot of giveaways, “It looked like mental tired tonight, to be honest with you. I don’t think it was physically tired, it was mentally tired and you always think about that last game of your trip and you are going home tomorrow and I think that came into play tonight for us, for sure, because there were a lot more turnovers than the last three games in total, I would say.”
  • On Halak, “exactly what we needed and he’s doing a great job and been outstanding for us and we don’t get a point tonight if it’s not for Jaro playing the way he played.”
  • On Lafreniere’s last ten games, “It’s great, the kids are playing great and working hard. Again, it’s all about our team, but Laffy has been really good and I’m happy for him putting the puck in the net and getting those opportunities.”
  • On Tarasenko scoring, “it was nice. We switched the lines up there for a shift or two and Troch made a real good play to him and Panarin started it off. It was a good, three way passing play and I’m sure it was nice to find the back of the net.”
  • Is putting Panarin and Tarasenko together in the back of your mind, “Yea, definitely. You’re gonna see it for the next 20 or whatever games we got, we’ll switch it up now and then. We’ll see how it goes. “
  • You don’t seem all that mad that the winning streak is over, “no….the way we played the game I thought we should have lost the game, but we battled back and didn’t quit and found a way to get a point. Sometimes you have these bad games and you get a point, that is a good sign for your team.”
  • On not killing off Calgary’s OT PP, “they did a great play, they walked the high slot and shot the puck and a good deflection in front of the net. You can’t fault anybody on that.”
