5/19/23 | 9:06 PM: On the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Friedman said of Carbery, “For one thing, that kind of disproves something earlier that I believed, that the Rangers were looking solely for NHL experience. The NY Post has been all over the Jay Leach idea, and I don’t know that I’d think they’d be doing this if they didn’t have reason to believe that he wasn’t on the radar. There is at least a couple of people in there and like I mentioned, Carbery, that don’t have previous head coaching experience. We’ve all wondered about Kris Knoblauch, too. At the very least I think the Rangers are looking around, at least investigating the possibility of someone coaching them who doesn’t have previous NHL head coaching experience.”

Carbary is believed to be also interviewing with Washington and Anaheim.
He was the head coach in Hershey of the AHL for three years (Washington’s AHL affiliate” and spent the last two seasons with Toronto.
Adam Rotter: Carbery is one of the hot coaching prospects and has long been considered one of the top candidates for Washington. Speaking with Carbery and him being a legit candidate are two different things. I’m not saying that Carbery isn’t a legit candidate, but there is no reason not to speak with any and every available interesting candidate. If the Rangers are speaking with Carbery then I wonder if Jay Leach, assistant with Seattle, will be a candidate as well. Neither of them have NHL head coaching experience, but both have coached in the AHL and are considered future NHL coaches. I’d also imagine that Kris Knoblauch will get an interview soon now that Hartford has been knocked out.
I’d still venture to say that Peter Laviolette is the top contender for this job.
