The Rangers have acquired Nic Petan from Minnesota for Hartford’s Turner Elson.
From the Rangers:
- Petan, 28, has split his 2023-24 season between the NHL’s Minnesota Wild and the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL).
- With Iowa, he has recorded 12 goals and 28 assists for 40 points, ranking first on the team in points and assists, and third in goals. He earned a selection to the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic. In Minnesota this season, he has posted two assists in six games.
- The 5-9, 175 pound forward has accumulated seven goals and 28 assists for 35 points in 170 NHL games split between the Wild, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Winnipeg Jets. In 2016-17 with the Jets, he posted a career-high 12 assists and 13 points.
Adam Rotter: Another depth move as the Rangers trade Elson, someone they signed as a UFA in 2022, for someone who is having a much more productive season in the AHL. Petan has some NHL experience and I can remember thinking he would be an interesting fit at one point a few years ago. Petan seems like he will fill Jonny Brodzinski’s spot as a top scorer in Hartford as the Wolf Pack battle for the playoffs.
