- The bounces went against the Rangers in the first period, but the Islanders were the better team overall. They found their game in the second and third period, but they were unable to fully dig out of the whole from the first period.
- The Islanders had 35 blocked shots and the Rangers had 36 shots on goal. The Rangers had the puck a ton after the first period but the Islanders were able to limit chances with all those blocks.
- The big concern coming out of this game, outside of being unable to match the Islanders level of play in the first period, was the collision Mika Zibanejad had in the third period. It looked scary since he was down for so long, but hopefully he just got the wind knocked out of him. I’m sure he went through the concussion testing when he went to the locker room and hopefully he passed.
- The Rangers are three points up on Carolina with three games left. Carolina beating Boston today brings the Hurricanes closer to the Rangers, but it also stopped Boston from catching up for the Presidents Trophy.
- It’s the reeling Flyers on Thursday, a rematch with the Isles on Saturday and then the regular season ends on Monday against Ottawa. The playoffs begin on April 20th.
