Stats:
Adam Rotter:
- Jonathan Quick was outstanding tonight. This was a tougher game than I expected, with Dostal for the Ducks also playing a terrific game, and Quick made a number of enormous saves in the last 30 minutes of the game. He was good overall, but the Ducks started pushing midway through the second and Quick made a number of saves to keep the game scoreless or keep the Rangers in the lead.
- I think the Rangers had the overall edge in play tonight, but the game became much tighter in the second and third with the Ducks pushing. The Rangers created a lot and probably should have had the lead earlier, but they kept working, eventually broke through and got the win.
- It’s a much different than Thursday was against the Panthers, but this was a pretty nice bounce back for the Rangers.
- That third line is just flying every shift. Thankfully Will Cuylle got one to count after he had his second really nice goal this season called back. Kaapo Kakko fed him a beauty in the season opener that got called back and tonight Filip Chytil made a nice little pass and Cuylle followed up his shot to score on the rebound. Cuylle will always be the under the radar one on that line, but he’s had a great start to his second season.
- Mika Zibanejad played 13:17 at even strength (15:07 overall) and Filip Chytil played 15:56 at even strength (16:35 overall). Reilly Smith and Chris Kreider both played more than Will Cuylle and Kaapo Kakko, but not by much. The Artemi Panarin, Vincent Trocheck, Alexis Lafreniere line was all over 20 minutes and so Peter Laviolette was going with the guys who were going. Chytil was flying and deserved to get more time than Zibanejad. I don’t think that the third line is going to overtake the Zibanejad line on a consistent basis, but they were going tonight.
