Stats:

Adam Rotter:

  • They should really just give Igor Shesterkin whatever he wants and get him signed by Sunday’s game. He was just incredible again and stopped a number of high quality chances, especially in the third period.
  • This was certainly a better overall effort than the game against Washington earlier this week, but it was still not at the level the Rangers need to be at. The Rangers had a good start, but Ottawa took over in the second and had the puck nearly the entire third period. The shots were 33-9 in the last two periods and if Igor Shesterkin was just really good, instead of amazing tonight, then the Rangers would have lost again.
  • Ottawa’s speed and skill seemed to have the Rangers on their heels for a lot of the game. The Rangers weren’t able to control or dictate the play, but their best player was the best player on the ice and so the Rangers picked up the two points.
  • Mika Zibanejad had more even strength time than Filip Chytil (12:09 to 11:18) and he had some better moments tonight, but he just doesn’t seem to be as forceful of an offensive player as he used to be. It’s a continuation from last year’s scoring issues at even strength. I think a lot of it can be fixed if he shoots more, but he needs to have the puck to shoot it more.
  • It was a step in the right direction if you compare it to Washington, but the Rangers need to find their structure. I don’t know if they will ever be as buttoned up as I think they should since some of that leads to their offense, but at some point you’d like to give Shesterkin or Jonathan Quick a little bit easier of a night.
  • They see the Islanders on Sunday.
