Stats:

Adam Rotter:

  • What a comeback and win for the Rangers with a spectacular third period and OT.
  • After that second period where Edmonton didn’t just have an edge in play but they scored two flukey goals that seemed like it put the game out of hand with how much the Rangers have struggled to score this season and the lack of big chances they were getting tonight.
  • But they got big secondary and tertiary scoring from Taylor Raddysh and Braden Schneider, had a massive penalty kill to end the third and start OT and what seemed like it was going to be another OT of regrouping and then losing, they regrouped, JT Miller had a subtle little move, went to the net and picked up a huge win for the Rangers.
  • The line changes that Mike Sullivan made, along with a certain level of urgency and push to get back into the game, seemed to light a fire for the Rangers. They went with the super top-line of Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad and JT Miller, Will Cuylle, Noah Laba and Alexis Lafreniere and then Conor Sheary, Juuso Parssinen and Raddysh.
  • I always want to believe that one goal will get a guy going, but if that OT winner gets JT Miller going offensively, or these new lines, then the whole season could start to look different. They need Miller to be more than just a grinder and hopefully this goal gets him shooting a bit more and producing at a more consistent clip.
  • It’s a big comeback win against a team in Edmonton that, while struggling out the gate a bit, seemed like they had the game in control. At this point it’s all about looking for positive signs for the Rangers and the last two games have returned to being somewhat strong defensive performances, albeit with some flukey goals last night, and that is the foundation that the Rangers need to build on.
  • They end this road trip on Saturday in Seattle against Ryan Lindgren but not an injured Kaapo Kakko.
