The Blues have announced that they have signed former Ranger Pavel Buchnevich to a 4-year deal worth $23.2 million.
His cap hit is $5.8 million.
The Rangers traded Buchnevich last Friday to St. Louis for a second-round pick and Sammy Blais.
6 PM: Elliotte Friedman said on the NHL Network that this was a trade about the “bigger picture” for the Rangers and them looking at their desire to add grit and their salary cap as it relates to new deals for Shesterkin, Fox, Zibanejad and the players coming off entry-level.
3:50 PM: The Rangers have traded Pavel Buchnevich to St. Louis for LW Sammy Blais and a 2022 Second Round pick.
Blais, 25, is 6-2, 205 and had 8 goals, 7 assists, and 103 hits last season in 36 games for St Louis.
In his career, he has 17 goals, 18 assists with 366 hits, and an average of 11:31 per game in 119 games.
7/20/21 | 3:57PM: Andy Strickland tweets that it “won’t be easy to pry” Buchnevich from the Rangers, but St. Louis is among the teams with “serious interest.”
10AM: Elliotte Friedman said on the 31 Thoughts Podcast, “the thing about Buchnevich is, he’s one more year, arbitration eligible, next year he’s a UFA. Teams that I’ve heard have kind of liked him at times, St. Louis, Nashville, I’m sure there is more. I know there was a rumor out there about a Horvat for Buchnevich deal. I don’t understand how that makes any sense for the Canucks. I mentioned that to somebody in Vancouver and just the pure scorn at my suggestion was very obvious. I do think Buchnevich is going to be an interesting player.” (Sportsnet)
4:24PM: Pavel Buchnevich has been suspended for one game for his high-sticking incident with Anthony Mantha.
The NHL said that Buchnevich was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for “recklessly delivering a forceful, high stick to the face” of Mantha.
In describing the incident, the NHL said:
6:55PM: The lines for tonight are (MSG):
11:21AM: Igor Shesterkin and Pavel Buchnevich were in a car accident last night in Brooklyn.
Buchnevich is listed as day to day.
Shesterkin has a non-displaced rib fracture and will be reassessed in a couple of weeks.
Rangers President John Davidson said, “last night at 8:30PM there was a car accident involving two of our players, Igor Shesterkin and Pavel Buchnevich. It was in Brooklyn, Igor was driving and apparently a vehicle pulled a u-turn in front of them and there was a collision. The air bags were deployed immediately and the seat belts were being worn by both players, and thankfully for that. And I mean thankfully for that. They were taken to New York Presbyterian to be seen by our physicians. Buchnevich was quite shaken up, no significant injuries and he is listed as day to day. With Igor, there is a small upper-body rib fracture, it’s no displaced. The estimate as of right now, he will be reassessed with his injury in a couple of weeks. We are concerned about our two players who were in a car accident but through the air bag system they had in the vehicle and the seat belts, it could have been a heck of a lot worse.”
