Updates from Rangers practice on Thursday

6:22PM: The Rangers recalled Matt Beleskey from Hartford.

6:12PM: David Quinn spoke after practice today and said (NYR):

  • On Buchnevich, “he will probably miss this weekend, he is probably a week away but he is getting closer and closer.”
  • On Namestnikov and Zuccarello, “they are right there, so we will see.”
  • On the young players, “there are going to be peaks and valleys, they will get better and better and better because they are playing a lot and being put in different situations but then you are asking a 20-year old to play 82 games against men and then there is a dip. So far they have managed that well and bounced back. There will be another dip, it’s just the lay of the land playing in the NHL.”
  • On the forward lines at practice, “injured guys, still a lot of uncertainty about what our lineup will look like.”
  • On Brendan Smith, “he’s hurt, upper body injury. It’s nothing major, he’s day to day, nothing long-term. He could do everything but contact but I anticipate that might change tomorrow.”
  • “We need to support better in the offensive zone, we need to stop playing 3 on 5 hockey. We need to be more patient in the O zone, those are the things we touched on. Our breakouts have to be better.”
