The Oilers have placed former Ranger Ryan Spooner on waivers.
The Rangers acquired Spooner at the deadline last year for Rick Nash, signed him to a two-year contract this summer and then sent him to the Oilers for Ryan Strome.

In Edmonton, Spooner has 2 goals, 1 assist, 24 shots on goal and an average of 9:47 per game in 24 games.
Since coming to the Rangers, Strome has 6 goals, 5 assists, 26 shots on goal and an average of 14:29 per game in 29 games.
Strome has two goals in the past seven games but an average of 17:40 per game.
Adam Rotter: I’m not sure if Ryan Strome will remain with the Rangers long-term but this is clearly a deal that the Rangers won. Spooner has ability and should be able to help a team with secondary, or maybe, tertiary scoring but he didn’t fit with the Rangers and hasn’t found a fit with the Oilers. Strome has the chance, because of his age and past as a high draft pick, to potentially be part of the Rangers future.
