With Calgary’s win over LA last night, the Rangers moved up to having the third best lottery at 11.5%.
The Rangers and Flames both finished with records of 34-39-9 but Calgary had two more regulation wins to win the tiebreaker.
The Rangers will pick either #1 if they win the first lottery drawing, #2 if they win the second lottery drawing, #3 if Vancouver and Chicago win both lottery drawings, #4 if a team below the Rangers wins a lottery drawing and #5 if two teams below the Rangers win the lottery drawings.
The Rangers ended the season 6-4 in their last 10 games and 12-10-3 since the Olympic break.
Adam Rotter: In some ways the Rangers were able to get the best of both worlds. They were able to win some games and create some good feeling and positivity after a terrible first part of the year, get a bunch of young players into the lineup to gain experience and bring energy, see guys like Gabe Perreault and hopefully Alexis Lafreniere take consistent steps forward and still pick in the top-five. The fact that they finished above .500 post Olympics and yet still finished last in the Eastern Conference shows bad bad things were for a large chunk of the season, but at a time where it would have been easy for the Rangers to let things continue the way they were, they came back, played better and picked up wins. Maybe had they kept losing they would have the second best odds and not the third best odds, but hopefully the fact that they didn’t take will bring them some luck.
