The Flyers have hired Alain Vigneault as head coach

4/15/19 | The Flyers have announced that Vigneault has been hired as head coach.

In a statement, Vigneault said, “It is an honor to be selected as the next head coach of the Flyers. The history they have established and the passionate fan base has made this a first-class franchise. I am excited to work with Chuck, the talented group of players and prospects coming up through the system, in order to return Philadelphia to the top of the NHL landscape.”

Vigneault is believed to have signed a five-year deal worth $25 million. (LeBrun)

4/13/19 | It was reported on Friday that the Rangers granted permission to the Flyers to speak with Alain Vigneault about their head coaching position.

The Sabres are also looking for a head coach while the LA Kings are believed to be close to hiring Todd McLellan.

Vigneault will be the coach for Canada at the World Championships where he will have former Flyers coach Dave Hakstol as an assistant.

Adam Rotter: The Flyers make sense for Vigneault as they have a core of players and are looking to speed up/end their rebuild and get back to the playoffs. The Senators would make sense for Vigneault as well, if they move on from Marc Crawford, as he is from there but that team is far away and the belief around the league is that Vigneault is best suited for a veteran team. I’m sure the Rangers will be fine with him taking any job and freeing up most of the money they owe him for the last year on his contract.
