What David Quinn said after the win over Ottawa

David Quinn spoke after the Rangers win over Ottawa and said (MSG):

  • “I thought we were better in a lot of areas, our puck support was much better, thought we defended better, we generated a little bit more offensive zone time and our special teams were huge tonight.”
  • Was this closer to a Picasso, “no, it’s not..it is closer to a Picasso but it’s early, the thing I liked is that we got better and that is what we need to focus on. We need to continue to focus on judging ourselves against ourselves and what our capabilities are and we were much better tonight than the other night.”
  • On the defense, “we got out of our zone a lot cleaner, our puck support was better, our forwards did a better job supporting our D and it allowed us to not spend as much time in our own end.”
  • On Zibanejad, “He knows how I feel about him, I’ve told everybody what a great player he is. He’s gotten to a level I know he is capable of getting to and I couldn’t be happier for him because there isn’t a better guy, he’s put a lot of work into it and I’m not surprised with the results he is getting.”
  • On Zibanejad’s second goal, “I’m standing there watching them zip that thing around like a ping pong ball. Those guys have done it before, they did it in the preseason a couple of times and they are starting to develop some chemistry and it’s only game two but one of the things that we need from them is that they have to be a complete line. As great as that is they need to continue to work on every aspect of their game and I think that will happen in the course of the season.”
  • Do you think Fox was more comfortable, “I thought Fox had a really good night, great poise, sees the ice so well and for a guy only playing his second game in the league he looked pretty composed out there.”
  • Can the PP cover up other areas, “absolutely. We have to get better in certain areas and we got better than we were opening night. When you are in the situation we are and as young as you are, one of the things I thought we did better in the third was manage the game and once we went up 3-1 they pushed hard and had some zone time and we didn’t really manage the game the way we needed to but I think we did a good job collecting ourselves and did a better job in the third period.”
  • Do you think Mika is pushed by Panarin, “I think he is pushed and incredly excited and that they bring out the best in each other. Buchie did a good job, he had a good night.”
  • On Georgiev, “I thought he had a strong game, liked a lot about his game.”
  • Are you trying to get Lemieux more ice time, “I thought he earned it, definitely earned it.”
