Henrik Lundqvist to start against St. Louis on Saturday

5:12PM: David Quinn spoke with the media after practice and said (MSG):

  • On why Henrik tomorrow, “Obviously there is a lot that goes into these decisions when you have three goalies. He’s played really well against St. Louis and I want to get him back in net.”
  • On Shesterkin so far, “I’ve had a chance to watch him and I knew what kind of talent he had and I think he has done a really good job. He’s square to pucks, athletic, absorbs pucks, great glove, his puck handling ability is unique. He was a big factor in the two wins.”
  • On Shesterkin winning complicating things, “There are a lot of difficult decisions, this one is unique. We have three really good goalies so it’s a better problem to have than no goalies.”
  • Where is Lundqvist physically and mentally, “he’s fine physically and he understands the situation, he and I talked a few days ago and he said that when he gets his chance he has to keep playing well.”
  • You don’t have a concern with his layoff, “we all talked about how he’s comfortable playing a lot of games, but the reality of the situation, there isn’t a goalie in the league that plays 65-70 games anymore. The league has changed and we have guys we are confident in and he is one of them for sure.”
  • On Lindgren, “day to day and he will make the trip.”
  • If Lindgren can’t play, Smith goes to D and Haley goes in, “yea”
  • Hajek’s not ready, “Hajek’s ready too, so I shouldn’t say that. Staalsie didn’t practice today, we’ll see how he feels tomorrow. Our lineup is uncertain as we stand here now.”
  • How has Hajek looked, “I thought he had his best day today.”
  • Has Hajek to Hartford been considered, “I think everything is on the table.”
  • On Georgiev needing to play, “we’d like to get him some games too.”
  • How do you do that, “we’ve got 38 more games, so he’ll be playing. The question is which ones. I’m not being evasive, we are just going day by day right now.”
  • Were you sending a message to Strome when you sat him, “yes.”
  • The message was, “that is unacceptable. He knows that. He’s had a hell of a year and responsibility comes with the situation he is in now and I think more is expected when you play in that role and are productive as he is and he knows that.”
