Igor Shesterkin could start tomorrow against the Devils

4PM: Quinn spoke after practice and said (NYR):

  • On Zibanejad as a leader, “He’s very comfortable with himself, there is a confidence…not an ego, but a a level of confidence. He kind of reminds me of Joe Sakic. I spent one-year in Colorado with Sakic and got to know Joe a little bit, he reminds me a lot of Joe the way he carries himself, how confident he is yet how humble he is in the same breath. That is a unique quality and the true definition of swagger, knowing you are good but not having to tell everybody and having a humility. It’s a unique quality.”
  • Is Shesterkin ready, “he looked good today, I haven’t had a chance to get down there and talk to Rammer but he looked good today and get an assessment when I get back down there.”
  • Could he play tomorrow, “there is a chance he could play.”
  • On moving Kakko to the fourth line, “I like a lot more of what he’s done in the offensive zone, it’s just the defensive end that we have to keep harping on. He makes a heck of a play on the goal, takes a shot but unfortunately he was a minus-3 and there is a balancing act right now. We want to make the playoffs. He’s an important piece right now and an important piece moving forward for sure. He might start on that line tomorrow but end up on the first, second or third line, it all depends on how the game is going.”
  • On moving Gauthier up, “I liked a little bit of what he was doing for sure. What happens a lot with a player like Gauthier, who has been a scorer wherever he’s been, then he comes here and he’s on the fourth line. He had only played four NHL games before he got here so you want to ease him in a little bit but we really like a lot of what we’ve seen so far.”
  • How do you think they are handling the playoff push, “pretty damn well, the fact that we are in this situation speaks volumes to the makeup of our team, the character of our group, togetherness of our group, the resiliency. We just played the last two Stanley Cup winners and went toe-to-toe and never backed down. We’ve all talked about how we are not a big, heavy physical team but we are playing with a bit of snarl and not backing down.”
