2020-21 Rangers

What Kris Knoblauch said after the loss to Philly

Acting Head Coach Kris Knoblauch met with the media following the Rangers loss in Philly and said (NHL Media):

  • On the Flyers,  “I think it was our match up against them the last two games, but also I think it’s how they’ve been playing lately. They are a good hockey team that wants to turn things around, so we knew that their intensity and compete level was going to be very high and it was. I thought we were ready for it and weathered the storm the first 5-10 minutes and after that, I thought we played very well.”

  • Are you surprised about Igor Shesterkin’s performance after his long layoff, “Absolutely not, I had some time with him in Hartford, I know how good Igor can be. I saw him last year. Sometimes it can be hard coming back from injury and some time off, but with Shesty, that guy never surprises me.”
  • On the Flyers momentum after they tied the game, “Yea, I think it gave them a lot, but I don’t think it changed the tide of the game or the way it was going. They are obviously very excited to score that goal, where we’ve been defending so well and Shesty playing so well in net, once they get one by, it gave them a lot of energy, but I don’t think it changed the momentum of the game at all.”
  • On impressions of what he has seen from the team, “First of all, we haven’t made any decisions, that hasn’t been confirmed for tomorrow. It’s been a great ride for me, something that was definitely unexpected, but I think the coaching staff has done a great job laying everything out for us. That goes for 5-on-5 play, PK before Jacques came back, and obviously, he took it over full-time when he came back and the PP. It’s nice being here in the NHL and having that experience, great group of guys, this is the youngest team in the league and it’s nice to see the possibility of where this team is going.”
  • On the goalie for tomorrow, “No, we have not decided that one. We will get to Washington and talking to the coaching staff, with everyone, that will make that decision, but right now we haven’t.”
  • On why the shot totals have been higher the past two games, “One, the last game was very difficult for our guys when you have quite a lead, you take your foot off the gas and you give up more, you just don’t play the same, so it’s tough to evaluate those games and also, you need to look at the shots. I don’t know, were they high-quality danger shots or were they from the perimeter? there are some teams that are high quality, I certainly know that the Rangers, we are not a high volume shooting team, we definitely are more looking for quality over quantity. It’s something to evaluate, but right now I don’t see the shot totals being a concern.”
