The Blue Jackets have announced that Brad Larsen will replace John Tortorella as head coach.
Larsen was an assistant to Tortorella in Columbus.
The Blue Jackets spoke with Gerard Gallant and Rick Tocchet twice and are believed to have also interviewed former Rangers coach David Quinn.
The Rangers, Sabres, Seattle, and Coyotes are still without coaches.
Adam Rotter: Columbus hiring Larsen doesn’t really impact the Rangers coaching search. Gallant was thought to be a serious candidate based on his past with the Blue Jackets, but Columbus stayed in house and went with someone they know to lead their rebuild.
The thought around the league is that dominoes will start to fall once Carolina gets Rod Brind’Amour signed and the Bruins and Jets confirm they aren’t making changes. Once those three situations are set the belief is that Gallant will be hired by the Rangers and Rick Tocchet will likely land in Seattle.
