Gerard Gallant met with the media following the loss to Columbus and said (MSG):
- On Adam Fox, “I think he left early in the third, upper-body, day-to-day.”
- On the game, “we let them back in it, we get up 2-0 and it seemed like we stopped playing a little bit, overconfident, whatever it was, I don’t know, we let them back in the hockey game and then they took the momentum and we didn’t get the momentum back until our third goal in the third period and we had a push there. We didn’t play the way we should have played for 60 minutes and it cost us two points tonight.”
- What explains tonight, “Your players are not going to be ready every night to play their best game and tonight I think there were three guys that I was really happy with and the rest of the guys are below where they usually are, that was the biggest thing for me.”
- Do you think tomorrow being a special night played a part in it, “I couldn’t tell you that, ask them that, I sure hope not. We weren’t ourselves tonight, put it that way”
- On Braden Schneider, “No, no, played real well. He’s played great, played really well.”
- On the first period, “We scored two goals, I don’t think we played great in the first period, it was a pretty even period to be honest with you, but it wasn’t like we were dominant in the first period. We scored on our first shot and Goodrow gets a goal off his skate going hard to the net, which is nice to see because you are close to the net and around the net and that is what we preach all the time and we get up 2-0, but I think it wasn’t because we were forechecking and pressing real hard and creating opportunity. It’s the same thing with their goals, they created their goals because of turnovers and it was no different than our two goals.”
- On after the first period, “It’s 2-2, wasn’t a great period for either team, I don’t think either coach would have been happy with that and we gotta be better. The second period we came out and it wasn’t a good enough push to win. They dictated the play more than we did tonight and that was the difference in the game.”
- On not having Fox in the third, “Doesn’t change nothing, you are concerned about the guy when he doesn’t come back in the period, but besides that you go play the game, play hard, compete hard, nothing can change. I’m sure it’s a minor injury, it’s not like he left with a serious injury. Nothing changes, you play your game.”
